The month of April is said to be one of the most important months for Catholics as well as for other religions celebrating the “Holy Week”. It reminds everyone on how Jesus saved each individual from their sins.
Holidays started at Thursday which is said to be a “Holy Thursday”, followed by Good Friday, Black Saturday and Easter Sunday.
Now, it has been a tradition for most Filipinos to attend the “Way of the Cross”. There are fourteen (14) stations and each shows a story on the significant events happened to Jesus during that time. Filipinos would offer a prayer for each station they passed.
With my family, we did the way of the cross at Shrine Hills-Matina, Davao City. You really have to climb up a hill in order to reach the church. Along the way, there are vendors selling different goods. It’s actually like a market up there, selling variety of goods and services. It made me ask: “Where is the essence of the holy week?, Why are there vendors beside the street?”

These are used shoes they sell at a lower cost. If your spikes weren't enough for a hill climb, then those shoes are yours!

At first, I thought those were merely religious/inspirational CDs and DVDs for sale but as I look closer, there were other great movies,too!HHhhhmmm....

I really thought those were life-saving thing.I wondered if there's a beach around a hill. Funny! My brother told me, those were balloons. Good attractions for children, huh..
Seeing the situation, I can say that Filipinos can really strike anywhere. Wherever the occasion is, there he goes! We left the church almost 7:00 pm and the vendors were still there. Tough enough for a hard work but where is the holiness of the holy week?
